Before the windows are removed Freebird Glass fully documents the project with photos, patterns and location charts.
Our team at Freebird Glass will carefully extract the windows making sure no additional damage occurs to either the windows or the facility
Freebird Glass transports the removed windows in our enclosed trailers and service vans, properly secured to tilted glass racks.
This protects the windows during travel from the elements and debry
Prior to disassembly the windows are again documented and full pattern rubbings are made to assure each section is placed back in it's original position when reassembled
As the windows are disassembled each section of glass is carefully cleaned to remove accumulated dirt and remove the original grouting
The windows are completely taken apart, all the original metal came is removed and will be replace with matching came profiles
Any sections of glass that are cracked or broken out will be replaced or conserved. Any painted sections will be replicated using the proper glass paint and then kiln fired to make the paint permanent
The cleaned glass is carefully placed back in it's original location and new metal came, matching the original profiles is assembled around the sections then soldered together
After the windows have been assembled, supporting braces are attached in specific locations to stabilize and prevent future bowing
The restored windows are transported back in our enclosed trailers and vans, then carefully placed back in the openings, where they are properly sealed and secured
If it is deemed that new protective glazing is required Freebird Glass will discuss the options that are best suited for the project and properly seal and ventilate the product to the exterior
Our team at Freebird Glass Inc has extensive experience in restoring stained glass windows and panels. We use the latest techniques and materials while including proven traditional methods to restore your stained glass to its original beauty.
" Dalle de Verre " Windows
Also nicknamed "Faceted Glass " due to the scallops on the edges of the of the 1" thick glass slabs.
This art glass medium was introduced to United States in the late 1950's . The 1" thick glass dalle's that are used in it's construction are produced by the same glass manufactures that produce the thinner sheet glass used it traditional stained glass windows but that is where the similarities end.
The glass Dalles are held together with a special epoxy and are usually textured with granules giving the appearance of mortar. The color transfer is deeper due to the thick glass and the designs are typically more of a Mosaic Style.
The sparkle from the Facets ( Scallops ) is unique to the
Dalle de Verre windows
These windows work well as main feature windows, interior wall dividers and hold up great as outside architectural art
In the early 60's threw late 70's the artist were experimenting with different matrix materials, some of which experience early failure, allowing the windows to bow, crack and separate from the glass causing leakage and glass to fall out.
Sadly vandalism is also a cause of major damage
Freebird Glass has developed techniques over the years to allow us to restore the damaged and failing units. Often returning them to better than new condition
Unfortunately there are no quick fixes to failed or leaking panels, the need to be removed and disassembled down to the raw glass, then pour a new matrix of modern epoxy
If you have concerns about the condition of your existing windows, give Freebird Glass a call and we will inspect and advise you as to the next steps.
Freebird Glass still produces new designed windows but uses our refined techniques to insure a longer life span.

Whether you are needing to relocate an existing window to a new location or are planning for a new window but do not have a location with an exterior opening, a Wall Mounted LED light Box may be the solution.
Freebird Glass can design a custom case specific to the window. These Light Boxes can be stained or painted to match the rooms design
Freebird Glass uses commercial grade power transformers and long life LED light pods all hidden behind a light defuser that disperses the light evenly.
If you are in planning stage and can prepare the location for the light box it is an advantage.
* Decide if the light box will be supported by the floor or if it needs to support solely on the wall
( If fully wall mounted add wall support for the weight load )
* Plan for your power outlet
The best option is to have a 110 plug outlet located behind the box and have it on a dedicated light switch
* If you are unable to prepare the location
Freebird Glass can design the unit with power cords to reach the closest existing outlet, and add on/off switches
* We also offer either manual or remote dimmers
Our LED Light Boxes bring your window to life and enhance it's natural beauty adding an elegant feature to any wall
