Insulated Leaded Glass Repairs
Insulated Leaded Glass is a Triple Glazed / Thermally Sealed panel where the Leaded Glass is Sealed between 2 sheets of clear safety glass.
These became the standard for front doors after the Texas Energy Code was implemented in 2000.
Insulated leaded glass door units are strong enough to prevent leaded glass damage during door slams, from blunt impacts like balls and toys and pushing on and are a great resolution for dogs that jump on the window
This system is much stronger than a traditional single glazed leaded panel , but they can still be broken by accident or by a rock from a lawn mower.
Some manufactures units may also incur premature seal failure and start to fog up
Proper Procedure
Freebird Glass uses the same commercial equipment that the manufactures use, we do not just caulk a new sheet to the outside like other companies.
Our process:
* We remove the window from the door and board up the opening leaving your door still functional
* We replace both sides of clear safety glass for quality
( Even the non-broken side )
* We place the inner leaded glass panel in a drying box to remove all moisture
* We then re-seal the unit with our
Heated Roller Press
* We also add special installation shims
to prevent premature seal failure
* Freebird returns the unit and professionally
installs it back in your door
This process insures the highest quality repair and returns the unit to like new or better than new condition

Antique Window Restorations
Restoring History
Restoring an antique window in any condition is a challenge we accept when others say it can't be done.
The above window was literally brought to us in a box with a picture of what it used to look like. The client had taken it to other studios but none were willing to attempt the detailed restoration.
Matching the old colored glass is becoming harder every day but Freebird glass has collected a large inventory of old and discontinued glass over the last 40 years and can usually come close.
Freebird Glass takes great care in respecting the original craftsman's concept and skills when we restore an antique window and strictly follow the Historic guidelines set by our industry.
Evaluations and Quotes
Typically these older windows need to be completely disassembled and re-leaded due to the age of the original metal came.
But each project is reviewed and determined what is necessary based on what the intentions are for the future of the window.
In addition to fully restoring the windows they can also be resized and reshaped if needed for their new location
